Research Statement

I am interested in tropical meteorology and hydrology. My researches focus on tropical cyclone and rainfall. Hurricane rainfall prediction, which have great impact on the society, is one of the most important part of hurricane prediction. I use GIS to do the spatial analysis. I am aim to find out the correlation between the storm size and hurricane rainfall and hope to use this to improve the accurary of hurricane rainfall prediction in the future.

Conference Presentations

Guo, Q. and Matyas, C. J. 2014 The relationship between size and rainfall distribution of Atlantic tropical cyclones prior to making landfall, delivered at the Association of American Geographers Annual Meeting, April 10, Tampa, FL.

Projects

Determine relationships between storm size and rainfall extent before TC landfall through a GIS and statistical analysis of satellite-derived rain rates and best-track wind estimates.
